You may not have heard of this. It is a little known show on HBO that only had 6 very short shows. Each show varies in length from 9 minutes to about 19 minutes. These shows are where most of their early songs and music videos came from.

These episodes are NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE ONLINE!
They released a soundtrack to the series called “Kielbasa Sausage”. These episodes have been available outside the HBO archive until 2003 when they were included in the “Complete Masterworks”DVD.

Jeremy Clarkson - The Good The Bad & The Ugly

For my all new DVD I’ve come to the U.S Of America-land to find out if the country that gave us Fast Food and the Fast Buck make a decent Fast Car? In fact can they make any decent cars at all?

In my quest, I pitch the best of the West against Europe’s finest. The Stig’s along for the ride too as we put the BMW Z4M head to head with the mighty Dodge Viper SRT 10. And the little Lotus Exige against a tuned Mustang.

I also put the 200mph CorvetteZ06 through it’s paces alongside the CadillacXLRV, the Fort GT and it’s topless cousin, the GT X1.

And then we find out what would happen in a car chase if a big American police cruiser were to set off in pursuit of an Ariel Atom (this bit’s quite short!)

There’s science too, as I flood an old Jaguar and a Lincoln with water, tear two Buicks into little pieces…race a Mustang horse against a Mustang car…and use high explosives to make my very own star-spangled banner. Oh and we discover what happens if you fill Toyaot’a green machine, the Prius, with a special kind of lead…bullets.

This includes the two variations of “Extreme Machines” that Clarkson did.

Review from Amazon:
Jeremy Clarkson ventures a little further from the beaten track in this video (a condensed version of the Extreme Machines series) and investigates the Apache gunship, drives jet boats, looks (longingly) at a Swedish Stealth Battleship, rides snowmobiles, has a go at P-51 Mustang racing and gets to fly an F-16. These are toys for very wealthy boys and really show “Mr. forty a day man” that cars are not the final word in transportation as he tries to put on a brave face when dealing with the 4gs of unlimited hydroplanes and goodness-knows how many gs in the F-16. But I suspect it won’t keep him quiet for long. Jeremy shows exotic modes of transport (except for cars) from around the world and even manages to restrain himself from criticising American vehicles. I wonder if this has anything to do with him getting to fly the F-16. A little difficult to obtain - took nearer 4 weeks than the 1-2 weeks originally advertised but this was reflected on my order status when Amazon figured out they couldn’t get it in time. (In fact no high street stores were able to obtain this video for me, even on special order and I have been trying to get it for some time now so all credit to Amazon.) In summary, A very enjoyable hour of video which I will no doubt watch every so often and still find myself chuckling with jealousy. I gotta have a P-51.

Every year since 1996, Jeremy Clarkson has released his own brand of annual DVDs, all of which have had a very similar flair throughout. Each DVD will normally contain its own theme, and are often a good source of entertainment, even if not quite as sophisticated as Top Gear.

In this release, Jeremy attempts to find “the best handling car in the world, ever”, in comparison to the previous editions quest to find the overall “best car in the world ever.” The bulk of the release is therefore catered to this, as Jeremy, along with Tim Harvey and Richard Burns, pits 10 of what he considers the best handling cars around the track, before coming to a decision. This is one of my personal favourites out of all of his releases. As well as cheesy guitar music throughout, these releases also have an annual tradition of Clarkson destroying “some kind of awful car”, which for me is always the highlight. In this instance, Jeremy destroys:

The FSO Polonez - two of these cars are put in an elaborate game of conkers, by smashing them into each other before the inevitable explosion.
The Chevrolet Corvette - chased through a desert by a helicopter gunship, which is eventually hunted down. One of his most technically spectacular feats to date.
The Lada Riva - torn in half in a quarry.

Since the contest began in 1996, more than 20 teams have entered, representing the United States, Canada, Russia, England and Argentina. But Rutan, the first to sign up, looks like the frontrunner. No other X Prize competitor can match his laurels or track record in aircraft design.

And with a one-man flight to 100 kilometers earlier this year, Rutan’s lead position now looks to be challenged only by one other team: the da Vinci Project, a Canadian space effort based in Toronto. Full description of the Billy Meier case:
“Billy” Eduard Albert Meier was born on February 3, 1937, in Bülach/Zurich, Switzerland. He had his first extraterrestrial contacts at the age of five with Sfath who was from from Erra (Pleiades/Plejaren), from 1942 to 1953. From 1953 to 1964 his contacts were with Asket from a sister universe to our own called the DAL universe. Then from 1975 to 1986 his contacts were with Semjase and Ptaah and Quetzal.

The Pleiadians / Plejarens and their confederates are human beings with physical bodies and look very much like the people on Earth, with the exception of some minor anatomical differences, especially regarding the confederates. They live for 1,000 years, approximately. Their home planet — somewhat smaller than Earth — is called Erra. Its population is about 500 million people, while the entire federation has a population of 120 billion. The Pleiades / Plejaren are not identical with the Pleiades we can see on the night sky. They are 80 light-years beyond the Pleiades in another space-time configuration (another dimension). The Pleiadians / Plejarens’ consciousness (”spirit”) and technology are much more highly developed than here on Earth. The Pleiadians / Plejarens and the people on Earth have the same ancestors, but have developed separately.

From 1975 until August 19, 2003, there have been 632 personal and 748 telepathic contacts with Pleiadian / Plejaran extraterrestrials and members of their Federation. The contacts are still on-going. There are photographs of single or multiple objects, day and night settings, above and below horizon line. There exist video and super 8 footage. Film analyzed by electron microscope, laser scanning and computer functions, thermogram edge identification, Z scale contour, density and film grain inspection, processed by electron microscope, microdensitometer, infraredometer, vidicon tube, digitizer, image process computer equipment.

The films show variations in flight of ships; multiple craft appearances; instantaneous spatial translations by space craft; portions of the films have been analyzed in frame by frame format.

4 metal, 1 biological and 9 mineral and crystal samples
Metal analysis was described thoroughly in video tape format (Beamship the Metal). It showed that the metal was made by a cold fusion process. This technology is not yet known by terrestrial metallurgy.

The sound recordings of a non-shielded beamship was taken in the presence of several witnesses who heard the deafening noise, but weren’t able to observe the ship that was screened from sight. The loud whirring sound could be heard for more than 4 kilometers as was confirmed by persons who soon arrived at the location. The scientific investigation showed that the sound is compromised of many tones/frequencies with unusual anomalies and rapid changes in tone and frequencies. Download the Beamship sound!

Landing tracks
Depending on the type of beamship there could be seen 1 or 3 landing tracks. When three, they were 120 degrees apart, circular; grass was depressed in counterclockwise rotational direction, visible for months after landing occurred. Both existing and new grass were affected.

Stephen Hawking is the most famous scientist on the planet. His popular science book ‘A Brief History of Time’ was a publishing sensation, staying at the top of the bestseller lists longer than any other book in recent history. But behind the public face lies an argument that has been raging for almost 30 years.
Hawking shot to fame in the world of physics when he provided a mathematical proof for the Big Bang theory. This theory showed that the entire universe exploded from a singularity, an infinitely small point with infinite density and infinite gravity. Hawking was able to come to his proof using mathematical techniques that had been developed by Roger Penrose. These techniques were however developed to deal not with the beginning of the Universe but with black holes.
Science had long predicted that if a sufficiently large star collapsed at the end of its life, all the matter left in the star would be crushed into an infinitely small point with infinite gravity andinfinite density – a singularity. Hawking realised that the Universe was, in effect, a black hole in reverse.
Instead of matter being crushed into a singularity, the Universe began when a singularity expanded to form everything we see around us today, from stars to planets to people. Hawking realised that to come to a complete understanding of the Universe he would have to unravel the mysteries of the black hole.

Taming the black hole
Hawking and his fellow physicists embarked on an extraordinary intellectual expedition – to tame the black hole. The period from the early 70s to the early 80s became known as the golden age of black hole research. Slowly physicists were coming to understand this most destructive force of nature.
But Hawking realised that there was something missing from the emerging picture. All work on black holes to that point used the physics of the large-scale Universe, the physics of gravity first developed by Newton and then refined by Einstein’s theories of generaland special relativity.
Hawking realised that to come to a full understanding of black holes, physicists would also have to use the physics of the small-scale Universe; the physics that had been developed to explain the movements of atoms and sub-atomic particles, known as quantum mechanics.
The problem was that no one had ever combined these two areas of physics before. But that didn’t deter Hawking. He set about developing a new way to force the physics of quantum mechanics to co-exist with Einstein’s relativity within the intense gravity of a black hole.
Hawking radiation
After months of work Hawking came up with a remarkable result. His equations were showing him that something was coming out of the blackhole. This was supposed to be impossible. The one thing that everyone thought they knew about black holes was that things went in but nothing, not even light itself, could escape.
But the more Hawking checked, the more he was convinced he was right. He could see radiation coming out of the black hole. Hawking then realised that this radiation (later called Hawking Radiation)would cause the black hole to evaporate and eventually disappear.
Although Hawking’s theories about black hole evaporation were revolutionary, they soon came to be widely accepted. But Hawking knewthat this work had far more fundamental consequences. In 1976 he published a paper called ‘The Breakdown of Predictability in Gravitational Collapse’. In it he argued that it wasn’t just the blackhole that disappeared. All the information about everything that hadever been inside the black hole disappeared too.

Are there limits to what science can know?
In everyday life we’re used to losing information but according tophysics this isn’t supposed to happen. Physics has it that information is never really lost, it just gets harder to find. Physicists cling onto this idea because it’s their link with either the past or thefuture. If information is lost then science can never know the past or predict the future. There are limits to what science can know.
For many years no one took much notice of Hawking’s ideas until a fateful meeting in San Francisco. Hawking presented his ideas to some of the world’s leading physicists. In the audience were Gerad t’Hooftand Leonard Susskind, two leading particle physicists. They were shocked. Both realised that Hawking’s ‘breakdown of predictability’ applied not only to black holes but to all processes in physics.According to Susskind, if Hawking’s ideas were correct then it would infect all physics, there would no longer be any direct link between cause and effect. Physics would become impotent.
Since that meeting the ‘information paradox’ has become one of the most fundamental and most difficult problems in physics. Arguments effectively boiled down into two camps. On the one side were Susskindand those who believed that Hawking was wrong: information could not be lost. On the other were Hawking and those who believed that physics would have to be rewritten to take into account the uncertainty about information that Hawking had uncovered.
For 20 years arguments raged. Neither side was willing to admit defeat. Until a paper emerged by a brilliant young Argentinean mathematician known as Juan Maldacena. It claimed to be a rigorous mathematical explanation of what happened to information in blackholes. It showed that information was not lost. Hawking, it seemed, was on the losing side. But he was not convinced.
Hawking set to work with a young research student, Christophe Galfard, to try to pick apart the Maldacena paper. They thought they could use the same mathematical techniques employed by Maldacena to prove that information was in fact lost. But after two years they still could not prove their thesis.

Solving the paradox
Then disaster struck. Hawking was taken ill with pneumonia and rushed to hospital. Doctors feared for his life. He was kept in hospital for over three months. But whilst others fussed over his health, Hawking was thinking. Finally, on what many feared might be his death bed, he thought he’d come across what had eluded him for the past 30 years – a solution to the information paradox.
Once again Hawking defied the doctors’ dire predictions and was soon back at work, working on a new proof for the information paradox. Then in July 2004, at one of the most prestigious conferences in physics,Hawking made a dramatic announcement. He claimed to have solved the information paradox. But to the surprise of many in the audience he was not at the conference to defend his long held belief that information was lost in black holes, instead he claimed that he could now prove the opposite.
Hawking presented the outline of a proof that he hoped would at last solve the problem that he had posed almost 30 years earlier. But despite the bold claims, some physicists remain unconvinced. Over a year has passed since the conference and he has still not presented a fully worked mathematical proof to back up his ideas.
But Hawking is a stubborn man. If Hawking is going to change his mind on a view he held for almost 30 years then it will be with his own proof, in his own time. In spite of failing health and increasing problems communicating with his colleagues, he is still working on the proof. If he succeeds in completing a proof that convinces his colleagues, he will not only have solved one of the most difficult problems in physics but he will have managed to have produced groundbreaking work at the very end of his career. A feat that even his heroEinstein could not accomplish.

Episode 1

The interplanetary spacecraft Pegasus and her five-strong crew are launched into Earth orbit. Their epic six-year mission has begun.

Their first encounter with Venus lies just 41 days away from Earth.

Although it’s Earth’s nearest neighbour, Venus could not be a more different world. With clouds of sulphuric acid, surface temperatures pushing 500°C, snows of metal that encrust mountain peaks and atmospheric pressures that could destroy a submarine, this is a hell-hole of a planet.

Astronauts Zoe Lessard and Yvan Grigorev make the nail-biting descent in a landing craft called Orpheus.

As the lander plummets to the surface in a fireball enveloped in a shroud of gases, Pegasus loses contact with the Orpheus crew. Cocooned in the supremely re-enforced landing craft, though, the astronauts land safely.0

Encased in an ultra-toughened titanium spacesuit, Yvan takes mankind’s historic first steps on to the planet.

His objectives are to collect samples, lay sensors to listen for volcanic eruptions and to retrieve a piece of a robot from a previous Russian mission - but soaring temperatures inside his suit prove almost too much.

With everything that’s keeping them alive at its design limits, these two planet pioneers make their escape with only seconds to spare.

Mars is 240 million kilometres and 62 days of interplanetary travel away.

Mission Commander Tom Kirby, medic and geologist John Pearson and exo-biologist Nina Sulman make their descent in another specially designed lander, Ares.

This frozen, red planet should prove comparatively easy to explore compared to the ferocious conditions on Venus but, as Tom steps onto the surface, a dust devil, five times larger than anything on Earth, engulfs him.

Fortunately, the Martian atmosphere is so weak that even these giant twisters are harmless. It does Tom no permanent damage, bar leaving a red hue all over his spacesuit!

Supported by a host of robotic explorers, the crew head for the edge of Valles Marineris - a canyon system a thousand times the size of Arizona’s Grand Canyon.

Their quest is to search for water in an attempt to discover life on Mars.

Marvelling at the breathtaking views, the team is suddenly alerted to the imminent arrival of a solar storm carrying lethal levels of radiation.

The safest place is inside Ares. Desperate to complete the experiments, their struggle back becomes a race for their lives.

Battling against radiation and giant dust storms, the team eventually complete their exploration of Mars and return to Pegasus.

They must now cross the inner Solar System for an unsettling, but necessary, close encounter with the Sun at temperatures approaching a staggering two million degrees centigrade.

This accelerates Pegasus briefly to one million kilometres an hour, which helps propel them the next 800 million kilometres to Jupiter.

On the way, however, a scary brush with a rogue fragment of rock begins to erode the crew’s trust in Mission Control back on Earth.

As they crash into the top of giant Jupiter’s immense atmosphere a few weeks later, there is concern that Control might have betrayed them again.

Even more worryingly, flight medic John Pearson seems to be getting very sick.

Episode 2

Just over 200 days of travel from the Sun, Pegasus reaches the largest planet of the Solar System, Jupiter.

Danger lies in a menace lurking at Jupiter’s core - a churning mass of liquid metallic hydrogen that inflates a magnetic bubble around the planet, producing levels of radiation 500 times the dose that would kill a human.

To repel these lethal rays, Pegasus generates its own magnetic field.

Mission geologist Zoe is to land on Io, one of Jupiter’s moons. As the most volcanically active world in the Solar System, it’s a geologist’s heaven.

This scientific bounty does, however, come at a price. Perilously close to the most lethal Jovian radiation belts, Zoe risks severe exposure but she’s trained hard for this day and nothing is going to stop her exploring these exotic lava flows.

Her exhilaration at being on the surface quickly turns to frustration when her spacesuit malfunctions. Even the most cutting-edge technology and millions of pounds of development cannot guarantee safety in these other worlds.

Zoe is forced to cut the mission short. No samples are returned and, to her despair, half the expedition is a failure.0

The ringed world of Saturn is almost a year of interplanetary travel away. By the time they reach it, medic John is seriously sick and deteriorating rapidly. He seems to have been exposed to a lethal level of radiation as Pegasus passed the Sun.

Amongst a mesmerizing trillion shards of ice and rocks tumbling in endless rings around this gas giant, crew member Nina Sulman conducts a spacewalk.

She collects a fragment for testing, hoping it will help establish the rings’ origins and age.

By the time she returns, John has passed away, no longer able to fight the radiation in his body. His death is a terrible blow to the astronauts.

Torn between returning to Earth or venturing on to Pluto, at the edge of the Solar System, the psychological stress takes its toll and the crew take the unprecedented step of cutting contact with Mission Control whilst they make up their minds.

Eventually, the astronauts re-establish communication having decided to continue on their Plutonian path.

Almost two years elapse before Pegasus draws close to the tiny frozen world of Pluto, its massive moon hanging close by.

Tom and Yvan make the descent and spend 10 days constructing a telescope which will remain on the surface after they leave, scouring the Galaxy for other Earth-like planets.

Heading for home, there is one final mission: to land on a newly observed comet, Messier, to sample pristine material from the birth of the Solar System in a search for the organic building blocks of life.

As the crew rests inside their lander, the comet suddenly starts breaking up without warning, shedding material into space and blocking a safe return to orbit.

Zoe and Nina make a dramatic emergency launch to bring them within sight of Pegasus, but comet debris has breached its hull, injuring Yvan.

Tom is busy fighting a fire on board. The safety of Earth suddenly seems a long way off…

Legend of Atlantis - Documentary

Great “flying pigs” documentary. I love these documentarys but they are completely out there in the open, not based on fact.
The 5 documentarys cover the lost city of atlantis as well as very interesting ideas that humans have been around for millions of years. They claim that very advanced civilisations have been around with the ability of space travel before we were even here. They claim that a “gravity bomb” is what killed most of the population. They managed to find evidence of this in soil samples as well as ancient indian writings.

All in all a great documentary, but it’s as if it were “the history of the earth, written by David Ike and produced in a hippie commune.

Stealing of the 2000 USA Election

A great documentary showing how the electronic voting machines were fitted to show a 60/40 win for bush. The machines were voting for bush even when the user was not selecting that vote. A list of known criminals was made which was 90% incorrect, meaning that many many non bush voters were banned from having their vote.
This is the biggest scam ever conducted right under our noses. Hell, Clinton was kicked out for lying about his involvement with an intern. Bush has killed thousands and thousands due to his involvement and addiction with arming dangerous nations and then knocking them out of power. We all live in dangerous times.

Missing Secrets of Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla successfully managed to send and receive electricity round the world via the ionosphere and also made the death ray (which has now become the HARP project). Almost all of his ideas were proven, but after his death they were not publicly acknowledged despite governments conducting much further research into them, hence the HARP project.

Seti makes contact with Aliens

This Documentary is not about the famous “wow” signal that seti picked up. It is instead about one of the many other signals they have received. After the signal was confirmed to be genuine the US government scrambled the frequency to stop further investigation. After a short period of petitioning, the US government removed the scramble and seti started to look into the signal. In a surprise move by the US government, they hand over all relevant documents they have on Roswell. The information reveals that it was not a UFO that crashed, but a listening device designed to spy on the russians. The device had instead picked up the same transmission that seti were now picking up.

This amazing and groundbreaking documentary shows how the information has been suppressed and controlled and we are surrounded by a universe teaming with life.

Roswell Alien Autopsy

This is not technically a documentary, it is the full video of the Alien Autopsy at Roswell. A lot of criticism has arose since the film was released and there have been a lot of inconsistencies raised about various parts of the film. I am in no way putting my faith in this film, but it’s well worth a watch.

A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the moon

This is an amazing documentary. It strips all the moon landing footage and shows exactly how it was faked. It even has never before seen footage of the astronauts setting up the ship with a cardboard cut out to make it look further away from earth than it was.

The weirdest bit is from a clip that was never used as part of the official moon landing. Houston are calling the astronauts, but get no reply becuase they are speaking to someone else on the radio. You hear houston call them again and this mysterious voice on the radio says “talk” and the astronauts reply to houston. Is this further evidance of a higher organisation? It would have been easier to fake if only the astronauts and a select few knew about it. NASA may well have believed it to be true and had no idea that the whole thing was staged.

How many documentaries have you seen about explosions? There are loads out there, but none top this one. Here is the rundown of the explosions in the documentary.

1. Seoul, South Korea - a liquefied petroleum gas station along with a tanker truck and several storage containers explodes multiple times. Good video footage from a helicopter. (A+)

2. Murdock, Illinois - 11 derailed train cars filled with petroleum gas explodes in a massive fireball and then at night the fire spreads to another car filled with Isobutene causing another huge blast. Decent coverage from a news crew. (A -)

3. Sao Paulo, Brazil - at an illegal festival, hot air balloons launch fireworks over the crowd. A malfunctioning balloon rains fireworks onto the ground where more are stored and they erupt into the audience. (C)

4. A series of controlled demolitions as a building is imploded by professionals and their techniques for carrying this out. (D) (Educational but not very exciting)

5. The decommissioned Royal Canadian Navy ships H.M.C.S. McKenzie and H.M.C.S. Columbia are sunk to create artificial reefs. They show the methods of doing this and the detonation processes. (D) (Interesting but again, not very exciting)

6. Mexico City, Mexico - a train with 30 passengers collides with a tanker truck carrying 3000 gallons of gasoline. The ensuing explosion, occurring after passengers were evacuated, is a major one and is well captured by a news helicopter. (A -)

7. Several different detonations of nuclear weapons being tested (Hiroshima and Nagasaki historical segments too) and the subsequent damage and effects caused by these blasts. (B - )

8. Aviation related sequences - the Hindenburg explosion and then staged detonations on a Lockheed L-1011, a Boeing 747, and a crash landing by a remotely piloted Boeing 707 - all of this is research by engineers to improve aircraft design and safety measures. (D+)

9. Several different rocket explosions (malfunctions during a launch or afterwards) including a rather extreme and dangerous one at about 1 to 2 thousand feet directly above Cape Canaveral, Florida moments after a liftoff. (B)

10. Henderson, Nevada - a production plant near the city manufactures Ammonium Perchlorate (a crucial ingredient in rocket fuel) and the plant is burning out of control. Stored on the property is a purported 9 million pounds of fuel. The initial explosion is massive in itself but the follow on blast is astonishing. It registers 3.5 on the Richter scale and vaporizes all surrounding structures. You can see the shock waves racing along the desert floor. This great video footage is captured from a work crew on a nearby hilltop with a birds-eye view of the plant. Due to this event, an estimated 7000 homes and businesses suffered blast damage and some of these structures were up to 2 miles away from ground zero. (A)

The Future Is Wild was a 2003 joint Animal Planet/ORF (Austria) and ZDF (Germany) co-production, which used computer-generated imagery to show the possible future of life on Earth. The seven-part television series was released with a companion book written by geologist Dougal Dixon, author of several “anthropologies/zoologies of the future” such as After Man: A Zoology of the Future, in conjunction with natural history television producer John Adams.

Based on research and interviews with dozens of scientists, this documentary was put together to show how life could evolve in the future if Homo sapiens became extinct; the Discovery Channel broadcast softened the harsh outlook by stating the human race had completely migrated from the Earth and had sent back probes to examine the progress of life on Earth. The show was played out in the form of a nature documentary. For a time in 2005, a theme park based on this program was opened in Japan.

Ecosystems
Twelve ecosystems were chosen at three points in time:-

5 million years’ time

The world is in an ice age and there are giant seabirds and carnivorous bats. The ice sheets extended to as far south as Paris in the northern hemisphere and as far north as Buenos Aires in the southern hemisphere. The Amazon Rainforests dried up and opened into grasslands. The North American plains shrivelled to become cold desert. Africa collided with Europe and closed off the Mediterranean Sea again. With no water to replace it in the dry climate, the Mediterranean dried out into a giant salt flat dotted with brine lakes, as it has been in the past. Most of Europe became frozen tundra.
Denizens
Babookari, a ground-living New World monkey, descended from the present-day uakari.
Carakiller, a giant flightless bird of prey, descended from the present-day caracara.
Cryptile, a frilled lizard that inhabits salt flats and has a sticky frill.
Deathgleaner, a giant carnivorous bat.
Gannetwhale, a seal-like seabird, descended from the present-day gannet.
Gryken, a slender terrestrial mustelid, descended from the present-day pine marten.
Rattleback, an armoured rodent, descended from the present-day paca.
Desert Rattleback, related to the rattleback.
Scrofa, a rock-dwelling boar.
Shagrat, a giant marmot which lives in herds and migrates with the seasons in northern Europe.
Snowstalker, a giant saber-toothed wolverine.
Spink, a small burrowing bird, descended from the present-day quail.

100 million years’ time

The world is very hot, octopuses have come onto land, and there are enormous tortoises. Much of the land became flooded by shallow seas. The surrounding land became brackish swamps. Antarctica drifted towards the tropics, and once again it became covered with trees as it had 300 million years before. Australia collided with North America and Asia, forcing up a monstrous mountain plateau higher than the modern Himalayas.

Falconfly, a giant predatory wasp.
Grass Tree, a species of plant in the Great Plateau that is harvested by Silver Spiders to feed the Poggles.
Great Blue Windrunner, a giant four-winged bird: its legs have flight feathers on and can act as gliding surfaces.
Lurkfish, a giant big-mouthed electric fish.
Ocean Phantom, a giant jellyfish.
Poggle, the last mammal. Ever
Reef Glider, a swimming sea slug.
Roachcutter, a swift jungle bird.
Silver Spider, a large colonial spider.
Spindle Trooper, a giant sea spider. They live in Ocean Phantoms, which they defend against enemies.
Spitfire Bird, a species of flutterbird which spits corrosive liquid.
False Spitfire Bird, a species of bird that resembles the Spitfire Bird, but is harmless.
Spitfire Beetle, a cooperative predatory beetle which preys on Spitfire Birds.
Spitfire Tree, a flowering tree that makes two chemicals collected by the Spitfire Birds, which in the process pollinates the tree.
Swampus, a terrestrial octopus.
Toraton, a giant tortoise, grows to 120 tons.

200 million years’ time

The world is recovering from a mass extinction caused by a flood basalt eruption, much larger than the one that created the Siberian Traps. Fish have taken to the skies, squid to the forests and the world’s largest ever desert is filled with strange worms and insects. All the continents have collided into one another and fused into a single supercontinent, a second Pangaea. Unlike the cephalopods of 100 million years ago, such as the Swampus, which were amphibious, the cephalopods this day, such as the megasquid, no longer have to return to the water to live. At this time, mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians are all gone.
Denizens
Bumblebeetle, a flying insect which lives and breeds inside the carcasses of dead Flish.
Deathbottle, a carnivorous plant, residing in the Rainshadow Desert.
Desert Hopper, a hopping snail with a modified single foot.
Forest Flish, a bird-like fish that no longer lives in the oceans, but instead flies like birds.
Flish, another type of Flish that relies on the ocean more than the Forest Flish.
Garden Worm, an algae-filled worm that feeds only on sunlight.
Megasquid, an elephant-sized omnivorous terrestrial squid. Its 8 arms have evolved into walking legs like an elephant’s. It uses its two long tentacles for feeding.
Rainbow squid, a giant chameleonic squid.
Sharkopath, a bioluminescent pack-hunting shark.
Silverswimmer, fish-sized neotenous crustaceans.
Slickribbon, a cave-dwelling predatory worm.
Slithersucker, a giant slime mold.
Squibbon, a terrestrial tree-swinging squid. Relatively intelligent; the likeliest ancestor for future sapient life.
Terabyte, a colonial termite that has become highly specialized.
Gloomworm, a primitive bacteria-eating worm.

Graham Hancock Horizon puts Graham Hancock’s controversial theories about the past to the test, dissecting his evidence for a lost civilisation.

Although scientists believe they have categorically disproved the myth of Atlantis, the idea is more popular now than ever before. The latest exponent of the theory of a single lost source for all civilisation, is Graham Hancock. Although he doesn’t call it Atlantis, his compelling ideas about a sophisticated society destroyed in a flood 12,000 years ago seem to be based on a reworking of the original Atlantis myth, whose survivors brought culture, religion, monument-building and civilisation to the rest of the world.

Orion’s BeltGraham Hancock offers various pieces of evidence to support his theory. He claims that the mysterious lost civilisation left its mark in ancient monuments, which he calculates were built to mirror certain constellations of stars. His hugely popular ideas have attracted such a wide audience that they stand to replace the conventional view of the past, which is based on scientific evidence that the civilisations of the ancient world were developed independently, by different peoples, on different continents.

Using modern astronomy, Hancock and his followers claim they can find messages from a lost society in the patterns of some of the greatest ancient monuments of the world. One colleague in particular, the author Robert Bauval, believes that the Giza pyramids in Egypt were built to mirror the stars of Orion’s belt.

Map of the temples at Angkor WatHancock also believes that the great temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia mirror the constellation Draco as it would have appeared 12,000 years ago - at a time when the world was in the Stone Age. They see this as evidence that a great civilisation existed at this time, and later conveyed its wisdom to the peoples of the ancient world, before disappearing without trace from the archaeological record.

BBC - Horizon - Global Dimming

Horizon producer David Sington on why predictions about the Earth’s climate will need to be re-examined.

We are all seeing rather less of the Sun. Scientists looking at five decades of sunlight measurements have reached the disturbing conclusion that the amount of solar energy reaching the Earth’s surface has been gradually falling. Paradoxically, the decline in sunlight may mean that global warming is a far greater threat to society than previously thought.

The effect was first spotted by Gerry Stanhill, an English scientist working in Israel. Comparing Israeli sunlight records from the 1950s with current ones, Stanhill was astonished to find a large fall in solar radiation. “There was a staggering 22% drop in the sunlight, and that really amazed me,” he says.

Intrigued, he searched out records from all around the world, and found the same story almost everywhere he looked, with sunlight falling by 10% over the USA, nearly 30% in parts of the former Soviet Union, and even by 16% in parts of the British Isles. Although the effect varied greatly from place to place, overall the decline amounted to 1-2% globally per decade between the 1950s and the 1990s.

Gerry called the phenomenon global dimming, but his research, published in 2001, met with a sceptical response from other scientists. It was only recently, when his conclusions were confirmed by Australian scientists using a completely different method to estimate solar radiation, that climate scientists at last woke up to the reality of global dimming.

Dimming appears to be caused by air pollution. Burning coal, oil and wood, whether in cars, power stations or cooking fires, produces not only invisible carbon dioxide (the principal greenhouse gas responsible for global warming) but also tiny airborne particles of soot, ash, sulphur compounds and other pollutants.

This visible air pollution reflects sunlight back into space, preventing it reaching the surface. But the pollution also changes the optical properties of clouds. Because the particles seed the formation of water droplets, polluted clouds contain a larger number of droplets than unpolluted clouds. Recent research shows that this makes them more reflective than they would otherwise be, again reflecting the Sun’s rays back into space.

Scientists are now worried that dimming, by shielding the oceans from the full power of the Sun, may be disrupting the pattern of the world’s rainfall. There are suggestions that dimming was behind the droughts in sub-Saharan Africa which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in the 1970s and 1980s. There are disturbing hints the same thing may be happening today in Asia, home to half the world’s population. “My main concern is global dimming is also having a detrimental impact on the Asian monsoon,” says Prof Veerhabhadran Ramanathan, one of the world’s leading climate scientists. “We are talking about billions of people.”

But perhaps the most alarming aspect of global dimming is that it may have led scientists to underestimate the true power of the greenhouse effect. They know how much extra energy is being trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere by the extra carbon dioxide (CO2) we have placed there. What has been surprising is that this extra energy has so far resulted in a temperature rise of just 0.6°C.

This has led many scientists to conclude that the present-day climate is less sensitive to the effects of carbon dioxide than it was, say, during the ice age, when a similar rise in CO2 led to a temperature rise of 6°C. But it now appears the warming from greenhouse gases has been offset by a strong cooling effect from dimming - in effect two of our pollutants have been cancelling each other out. This means that the climate may in fact be more sensitive to the greenhouse effect than thought.

If so, then this is bad news, according to Dr Peter Cox, one of the world’s leading climate modellers. As things stand, CO2 levels are projected to rise strongly over coming decades, whereas there are encouraging signs that particle pollution is at last being brought under control. “We’re going to be in a situation, unless we act, where the cooling pollutant is dropping off while the warming pollutant is going up. That means we’ll get reduced cooling and increased heating at the same time and that’s a problem for us,” says Cox.

Even the most pessimistic forecasts of global warming may now have to be drastically revised upwards. That means a temperature rise of 10°C by 2100 could be on the cards, giving the UK a climate like that of North Africa, and rendering many parts of the world uninhabitable. That is unless we act urgently to curb our emissions of greenhouse gases.

“A solitary loggerhead turtle in the middle of a vast ocean may not sound like an adventure film, but stick with her. Along her 9000-mile voyage to nest, our loggerhead tour guide in VOYAGE OF THE LONELY TURTLE encounters hammerhead sharks, deep ocean tempests, and man-made death traps in the form of fishing nets and hooks. Her body of well-suited armor and specialized adaptations for deep-ocean dwelling will help the sea turtle evade many of the ocean’s menaces. But this is just one set of challenges to overcome. Researchers have learned a great deal about how this curious creature could make such a phenomenal voyage. Some of the most valuable information was gained from a single voyage. Scientist Wallace J. Nichols released the captive loggerhead turtle, Adelita, into the Pacific a decade ago. Over the course of a year, Adelita did what no sea turtle had ever done before, she took researchers and turtle enthusiasts along on her journey, to her beach, to nest. Since then, researchers have shed much light on how sea turtles like loggerheads navigate the astounding trip. One of the more fascinating aspects of this navigation is the turtle’s use of magnetic mapping to chart its course.”

Venus Unveiled - Documentary

Beneath the reflective atmosphere of Venus lurks a planet that has puzzled man for centuries.
Another from the Excellent “Images of the Cosmos” series of Astronomy programmes.
Mars may get all the press but Venus should be almost a twin of earth considering it’s orbital distance and size.
Instead it is a Hell planet. Why ? This explores Venus in quite some depth (and I have found few programmes that have BTW though I remember a documentary about catastrophism and Venus from somewhere) Answering some of the old questions that perplexed Huygens about it’s mysterious surface while posing new questions about it’s strange exogeology, atmosphere & surface features.
